Green Energy & Homes

This action group is working on the following areas in 2022:

i) Investigating community energy schemes – we want to see more visible signs of renewable energy in our villages (solar power, wind turbines), whether this be on public buildings or private residences. We are investigating a community energy scheme and hoping to get funding to put one in place.

ii) Encouraging the switch to renewables – as residents we can all make a difference in our own homes. We might be small individually but combined, we can make a big impact. We will encourage people to switch to renewable energy suppliers and help people move away from fossil fuels in their homes.

iii) Retrofitting and making homes greener – there are many things we can do to make our homes greener, from better insulation and moving away from gas central heating to reducing our water usage and better use of rainwater. We will help people make these decisions with information on relevant government schemes.

iv) Community groups – when communities work together they can be a powerful force for positive change. You only have to see how quickly the community responded to help each other during lockdown. We will be working on a plan to get communities of neighbours working together to support each other and learn from each other.
