Hurst Rethink is a group of volunteers who have come together to drive sustainable change in the villages of Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common.
We are an independent sub-group of HKD Transition. Membership is open to anyone or any organisation, living or located in Hurstpierpoint and the surrounding area, interested in helping us to achieve our aims of making our community more sustainable.
Members are encouraged to:
- reduce their carbon footprint, with the help of the group
- pledge to reduce it via the West Sussex Carbon Pledge.
- join one of our action groups to actively participate in our plans
- volunteer to join in with any Hurst Rethink activities that they are interested in
- encourage others to try and live more sustainably
- lobby local and national government on environmental and community issues.
Links With Other Groups
We also maintain regular links with other local groups like Sustainable Henfield 2020, Greening Steyning, Fairer World Lindfield, Greener Cuckfield and Central Sussex Climate Network.

I live in Keymer with my husband and two boys. After a career making documentary and educational films I changed direction and now produce live and online events. I am interested in building connections between people and places and am a strong believer that small acts, when multiplied, can have great effect.

Charlotte Wilson – Secretary & Green Consumer Group Leader
I moved to Hurstpierpoint in 2014 with my husband and twin daughters. My background is in digital marketing. I attended my first Climate Change march in 2019 and during the pandemic found myself increasingly drawn to climate action. I decided to focus my energy on local initiatives and trying to make the village more sustainable. I co-founded Hurst Rethink in late 2020.

I have beengiven your website as I am desperately concerned or our environment. I do not see the point of worrying about climate change if we do nothing to keep the locality sustainable. All night street lights are killing insects, bats , birds, trees and more. Can also produce cancer. The latest research says 1 in 4 will get Diabetes. Our M.P. is chairman of the Governments Dark Skies Committee so some support would be mutually helpful. The Government wishes new developments to keep ponds and encourage wild-life. On this estate, failing to consult the owners, the maintainance people have 3 times killed deliberately the developing wild-life. I am 91 and the NHS gave me a stroke, so now much enfeebled, feel unable to keep the fight. I shall be delighted if others can take over. I was a Landscape Architect and have loved the country all my life but am now surrounded by urbanites ignorant of the dangers and not teaching their children to enjoy the life in woods and ponds etc. . I am not very mobile now but will welcome anyone here to discuss this matter at 6 Gertrude Campion Close on Spireswood Grange estate. Phoning is no use as I’m very deaf but e-mail is my life-line now .
